SWAN is an active partner with the Stark Community Foundation. Each board member has completed a course of training through the Foundation. The Foundation has been very generous in providing grant moneys to enable us to enlarge and improve the Neighborhood Garden each year and to provide activities for youth and the culturally diverse groups in our community. SWAN is a member of the Neighborhood Leadership Council that meets monthly at the Stark Community Foundation.
SWAN partners with Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, 120 Cleveland Avenue SW, to provide the youth in the community with a safe, supervised place to play volley ball, ping pong, pool, and Xbox games. Church of the Savior gives away groceries each Friday from 1:30-3:30. They also provide free breakfast on Sunday mornings between 6:30 and 8:30. On Thursday nights there is volley ball for singles. For more information, call 330.455.0153. Sunday worship services are held at 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Attendance is not required to receive free groceries or free breakfast.
SWAN has an ongoing partnership with Sign Pro of Canton, Inc. Sign Pro donated the sign at the community garden on the northeast corner of Union and High SW. Sue Akers of Sign Pro is a graduate of Neighborhood Leadership Training and has been a generous donor of time and gifts for our community Christmas parties.
In 2005 Belden Brick donated money to get our name registered with the State and Federal Governments so we could set up a checking account and take preliminary steps toward having our own 501C3 designation. Several area businesses have donated money for SWAN Christmas parties. These include M & E Body Shop, Athens Restaurant,.Arcardia Bar & Grill, and Everhard Products. .
Neighbors have donated gift certificates, gifts, and hours of time. In 2006 Santa rode to the party in a fire truck, and firemen handed out treats to the children. Many of our events were hosted at the Goodwill cafeteria when it was still located at 9th and Cleveland.
